Meet OneFitPlus member Nikita D. A software engineer by profession; Nikita lives and works in Bangalore, the silicon valley of India. Being a fitness freak, she frequently visited the gym and was also part of an active running group in her neighborhood. Towards the end of 2019, she also took part in a half marathon.
However, by March 2020, as the world shut down due to the Coronavirus threat, her active life came to a standstill. She had started gaining weight and was anxious about her sedentary life. Here's Nikita's six-day OneFitPlus.Live schedule in her own words:
I'm usually quite energetic at the beginning of a new week. So once my work shift gets over, I open up the OneFitPlus app for a treadmill session at 6.30 PM with Gloria, who preps us up with stretching exercises in the beginning. I then walk fast-paced on a 4 percent incline for 7-8 minutes, gradually moving on to a 6 percent incline for two minutes and then to an 8 percent incline for a minute. I then go back to walking on a 1 percent incline for two minutes. I repeat the whole set two more times before slowing to cool down.
Energized by Monday's workout, I am eager for the next one. Even though I feel a bit sore in my legs, I know that I emerge stronger every time I push myself a little more. I have sessions with Tanmay on Tuesday. I start with warm-up exercises and then proceed for High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). The upbeat background music makes the challenge interesting. After 15 minutes of heavy-duty sweating and breathing, we cool down and get into recovery mode.
Moving further into the week, I have a class with Manuraj today. After a few warm-up exercises, he gets me into the mood for more. I start with an easy jog and then alternate between a fast walk and run between 5 to 10 percent gradients at varying speeds. It feels incredible after doing such a vigorous and high-intensity workout. My confidence is boosted, and I have better strength and endurance.
I finish my work a little early on Thursday to join the 5.30 PM treadmill session with Tanmay. I cast the online session on my smart TV and begin the workout with a round of stretching and warm-up. After the treadmill session, I like doing speed interval workouts, wherein I run at a challenging pace for 30 to 60 seconds and then recover at a slower pace for up to two minutes before speeding up again. I repeat this set many times during the workout.
For Friday, I prefer working out on my own. After getting ready to exercise, I connect my treadmill to the OneFitPlus app and log in to the Fitwarz – The Fitness Game that I cast on my smart TV. While walking/jogging at a comfortable pace on the treadmill, I simultaneously play Fitwarz with several virtual companions. It is a perfect blend of fitness with fun.
Weekends are a bit lazy, and one gets tempted to skip working out. But I try not to fall for that. I join the 8 PM session with Tanmay on Saturday. After a quick round of warm-up stretching exercises, I run at a steady pace for a good 20 minutes, elevating my heart rate and helps me burn the extra calories from the heavy brunch I eat. I come out feeling energized and thankful that I did not give up the idea of exercising today.
I take a break on Sundays.
THE ONLINE SESSIONS
My choice of the workout session depends mainly on the time I get free from work or other engagements. I pick the best suiting OneFitPlus.Live session. However, there have been times I have taken the morning session too at 8.000 AM. One of my close friends, also a member of the OneFitPlus community, takes the session every day at 7 AM. The number of time options to choose from is many, and I had never felt restricted when it came to the stipulated hours available.
